Children of "Down Syndrome" Must Can Independent

Attention to Down syndrome children in Indonesia ten years back began to appear. One of them with the activities carried out by the Down Syndrome Association of Indonesia (ISDI).

In ISDI itself a Center of Hope was founded to educate the children down syndrome. According to the Chairman ISDI Aryanti Rosihan Yacub, support for children with special needs such as Down syndrome should continue to be encouraged, especially by the parents of children with Down syndrome.

"At the center ISDI children can be briefed to be more independent because of many things that must be learned in life," said Aryanti to the media on Sunday (24/1/2010), who met when she was accompanying her son on Golf Pondok Indah, Jakarta .


Lessons are given, among other lessons juicing, , play angklung, computers, and painting.

In the lesson to make juice, Down syndrome children are taught to know the various kinds of fruit, peel it, and finally make the juice. While the painting lessons, he continued, the children are directed to make the card and pin. "We also sell pins, all the results from the children," he said.

However, until now only been ten Down syndrome child studying in ISDI. Aryanti who also has Down syndrome child, emphasizing that the sciences that are applicable more important for Down syndrome children. "There must be a real program, this is what we teach in ISDI," he said.

In addition to learning in ISDI, Down syndrome children, he added, should be diligent in exercising trained for motor nerve. Furthermore, he hoped, Down syndrome children can apply like normal kids.

With early treatment, Down syndrome children are expected to explore their potential to be useful when they mature later.

For information, Aryanti youngest son, Michael Rosihan Yacub (20), today will receive the award MURI. Michael listed as the only golfers in Asia are having down syndrome.
